Diagnostic and Statistical Model of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), is published by the American Psychiatric Association. It contains descriptions, symptoms, and criteria for diagnosing mental disorders. DSM-5 is available on the McMillen Library website: library.indianatech.edu

How to access DSM-5

1. To access DSM-5, click on Databases by Title (A-Z) on the right side of the page.

2. Under the letter "D" click on the DSM-5. 

3. If off-campus, you will be prompted to log in with your Indiana Tech credentials (Indiana Tech email and password).

How to find your topic in DSM-5

In DSM-5 search for a disorder as explained below:

For this example, we will search for ‘Traumatic Brain Injury'.

1. In the upper right corner of a top toolbar, click Advanced Search.

2. Enter the name of the disorder (traumatic brain injury) in the first search field, as shown below.

3. In the Published in field, type the first few letters of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (the name of the source).

4. Click Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (the name of the source).

5. DSM-5 classifies ‘traumatic brain injury’ as a Neurocognitive Disorder.  For a detailed description, click the Neurocognitive Disorders hyperlink.
